Alzheimer`s Disease

see also Senile Dementia

Comparatively swift deterioration of mental and physical powers at a relatively young age or before the age of 66, causing death within about five years. Unlike dementia in the elderly, Alzheimer’s disease progresses fairly quickly and sometimes has a reversible cause - a brain tumour, Hypothyroidism or aluminium poisoning, for example. In some cases deterioration may be genetic or due to a slow virus infection. If no obvious cause can be established, constitutional care from an experienced homeopath is recommended.

Self help: Encourage person to use his or her senses - especially taste, smell and touch - to the full. Pets and music often have a positive effect on the mood and help to keep blood pressure down. Avoid cooking in aluminium utensils or using aluminium foil, and remove as many sources of aluminium from the environment as possible; it might also be worth having aluminium levels in the body assessed by hair analysis. Extra Vitamin C and Vitamin B complex, calcium, magnesium and zinc are recommended, as is evening primrose oil. Anti-oxidants and lecithin are also recommended.
