Viral infection, spread by personal contact, which begins rather like Influenza (fever, sore throat, headache, general achiness); within a day or two glands become swollen and painful, tonsils enlarge and become dirty-looking, and Jaundice or a rash similar to that of Rubella may develop. Though these symptoms wear off in 2-3 weeks, full recovery may take some time (see Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). Since antibiotics are ineffectual against viruses, only treatment is rest and plenty of fluids. Your medical doctor will do a blood test to confirm diagnosis, but this is not always reliable as glandular fever can involve many viruses, not just one. Constitutional homeopathic treatment is recommended if condition drags on.
