Enlarged Spleen

One of the symptoms of MalariaCirrhosis of the Liver, leukaemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, polycythaemia, etc. Spleen enlarges when called on to remove massive numbers of red blood cells, defective cells, or bacteria from circulation. Enlargement produces a dull, heavy sensation just under left ribs. Though this may not be only symptom, consult your doctor if there is no improvement in 12 hours.

In adults, spleen may have to be removed if it has been ruptured by injury or if it is destroying too many red blood cells (as in haemolytic anaemia, see Anaemia); its functions are taken over by rest of reticulo-endothelial system. In small children, splenectomy is usually avoided because organ plays a larger role in dealing with hostile bacteria.

While awaiting investigation, give one of the remedies listed below. If enlargement is related to any of conditions mentioned above, consult relevant entry for homeopathic remedies.

Specific remedies to be taken 4 times daily for up to 2 weeks
