Tinnitus

Persistent ringing and other noises in the ears. Other causes of noises in the ear include insects or foreign bodies trapped in the outer ear canal (see First Aid > Ear Injuries), pressure damage or barotrauma (especially after air travel), and some drugs, especially aspirin. It is also associated with ageing. If accompanied by hearing loss, see Deafness for treatment. If cause cannot be pinned down, consult your doctor if there is no improvement in 48 hours or see your homeopath.

Can be treated using masking noise. There is evidence that retraining to reduce tension associated with tinnitus may help conduct the Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Centre. On rare occasions it can be exacerbated by neck problems. See an osteopath or physiotherapist.
