Sore tongue caused by temporary absence of papillae, the tiny protrusions that contain the taste buds; denuded of papillae, the tongue becomes dark red and inflamed; hot, spicy, acidic, or scratchy foods should be avoided. Occasionally condition is a symptom of iron-deficient Anaemia, or a lack of Vitamin Bl2, B3, biotin, or folic acid (folate). Supplying the deficiency usually re-establishes normal growth of papillae. In addition to remedies given below, those given for Burning Mouth Syndrome are also appropriate.

Specific remedies to be taken 4 times daily for up to 5 days

  • Sore, burning tongue wide red tip and red streak in middle Arsenicum 30c
  • Whole mouth and tongue hot, dry, and red Belladonna 30c
