Scarring

Once blood clotting has effectively sealed a wound and special white blood cells have disposed of bacteria and other wound debris, cells called fibroblasts start to repair the wound internally, producing scar tissue; this consists of very strong but relatively inelastic fibres of protein which tend to shrink with age. Uncontrolled production of scar tissue leads to a keloid. Homeopathic treatment can help scars to fade, or prevent them thickening, if the remedies produce no improvement within a month or so, see your homeopath.

Specific remedies to be given even 12 hours for up to 1 month

  • To minimize scarring or remove superficial scars Thiosinaminum 6c
  • Old scars which suddenly become itchy, painful or inflamed Silicea 6c
  • Scar beginning to thicken or with a tendency to weep Graphites 6c

Self-help: Avoid injury by covering scars, clean all wounds well. Do not pick at scars, clean them gently and always cover scars with sun block while sunbathing. Eat a good diet and remember that scars do fade with time. Some people report that an external application of Vitamin E during healing makes scars less visible.
