Erysipelas (Cellulitis)

Streptococcus infection of broken skin, usually on face or lower leg, causing mild Fever, redness, tenderness, and swelling, sometimes with red lines (inflamed lymph vessels) radiating from site of infection towards nearest lymph gland (see Lymphangitis). Untreated, bacteria may enter general circulation and cause Septicaemia. Orthodox treatment is antibiotics.

Specific remedies to be taken every hour for up to 10 doses; if fever and swelling do not abate within 24 hours see your medical doctor

• Skin burning hot, watery swelling under skin Apis 30c
• Bluish-purple tinge to skin around infected area, perspiring more than usual Lachesis 30c
• Infected area blistered and intensely itchy, general restlessness Rhus tox 30c
• Lesions bright red, throbbing and tender, cold air intensifies discomfort Belladonna 30c
• Nearby glands swollen, sweat smells unpleasant, heat and cold equally uncomfortable Mercurius 30c

Self-help: if a limb is affected, keep it raised as much as possible.
