Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Loss of sensation in the palm, thumb, and first two fingers of the hand, and pains which shoot up the arm from the wrist; caused by pinching of the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel, a tunnel of tissue beneath the bones of the wrist. Symptoms worse at night, often relieved by hanging arm over side of bed. Cause may be hormonal or from overuse: it a common in workers using computer keyboards. Conventionally treated by diuretics and steroids, or by surgery if condition is severe.

Specific remedies to be taken 4 times daily for up to 2 weeks

  • Person has a great craving for salt, Natrum mur. 6c
  • Pain relieved by warmth and rubbing, Magnesia phos. 6c
  • Pain severe enough to wake person up at night, Aconite 30c

Self-help: Vitamins B2 and B6 may give some relief. Also, do gentle hand exercises; raise your hands in the air; take a break from what you are doing. When carrying anything with a handle, make sure that the grip is neither too small nor too large. Cold packs may help to breakdown the swelling.
