From the moment they erupt, teeth are vulnerable to decay. Bacteria act on sugars in the mouth to form plaque, an acidic substance which erodes the outer enamel, causing cavities and the familiar pain of Toothache. For more information on dental problems.
Self-help: To minimize tooth decay, oral hygiene should begin as soon as first milk teeth erupt. Restrict sugary foods to twice a week at most. Clean child's teeth after every meal or at least twice a day, using a soft brush, and encourage child to do the same. If you live in a low-fluoride area, give fluoride supplements 5 days out of 7 until age of twelve. Cod Liver oil, and other foods containing Vitamins A and D, also help to toughen teeth. |
