A whitish-grey patch of thickened or hardened skin inside the mouth or on the tongue; forms over a period of weeks as a reaction to a rough tooth, dentures, or hot cigarette smoke; feels rough and stiff, and may sting when hot, spicy food is eaten. Usually clears up within 3-4 weeks if cause is removed; if not, consult your medical doctor as there is a very small risk of such patches turning malignant.
