Ringworm (Tinea)

Nothing to do with worms! A fungal infection of the skin, so called because it causes red, scaly patches which heal from the middle outwards. Can affect scalp (hair falls out leaving bald patches), feet (causing athlete's foot), groin, armpits, or trunk. Very contagious, spread by contact in swimming pools and washrooms, and by contact with pets and other animals.

Specific remedies to be given every 4 hours for up to 10 doses

  • Infected scalp Sulphur 30c then Sepia 30c if no improvement
  • Infection confined to trunk Tellurium 30c

Self-help: Wash affected areas with soap, wipe dry with surgical spirit, and dab with Cod Liver oil. If lesions persist, apply anti-fungal ointment (preferably one that does not contain steroids) or selenium-containing shampoo for up to 1 week. Keep child away from school until lesions heal. Destroy all combs, brushes, headgear, etc. which may have been in contact with lesions, and thoroughly wash and dry all clothes. Take pets to homeopathic vet and have them checked for ringworm; destroy all suspect bedding.
