In men, painful urination accompanied by a dull ache in the groin, and sometimes Fever, may be due to prostatis (see Prostate Problems). Other conditions causing painful urination include urethritis (see Cystitis), Sexually Transmitted Diseases such as Non-Specific Urethritis (discharge from urethral opening) and Gonorrhoea (discharge from penis or vagina, anal infection causing discharge and irritation, and in women fever, chills, and pains in abdomen and joints), genital infections such as Thrush, trichomoniasis, and pruritis vulvae (see Vaginal and Vulval Problems, Penis Problems), Cystitis (frequent urge to urinate, stinging or burning sensation when urine is passed), and acute Pyelonephritis (high fever, intense pain in kidney area extending down to groin, nausea and vomiting, shivering, pink or cloudy urine). If pyelonephritis is suspected, consult your doctor if there is no improvement in 12 hours.
