Drowning

Do not attempt to drain fluid from the lungs of someone who has nearly drowned. Start cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (see Breathing) as soon as possible at the water's edge or in the boat - and contact Emergency Medical Services. Continue cardio-pulmonary resuscitation for up to 1 hour if necessary.

On recovery, the victim should be seen by a doctor because of the danger of respiratory infection.
