From Allium cepa, the red onion. The homeopathic remedy is made from the whole fresh plant in July/ August. Onion contains an acrid, volatile principle which stimulates the tear glands and the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract. At one time Allium was used to cure worms, earache, and bites from mad dogs.
