Cadmium |
Cadmium displaces Zinc from the enzyme system. The effect on the body is mainly centred around the kidney and it may cause high blood pressure.
Sources Cigarette smoke, plumbing alloys, soil, people living in cadmium hotspots near industrial works; it is also widespread in many foods and in rubber tyres, old plaster and carpet backing. It is particularly dangerous to pregnant women and children. |
